A family living space completely transformed! This old, unloved conservatory underwent a complete overhaul to become a warm, comfortable bright space in a matter of days.
Mr & Mrs Walsh and their family found increasingly that their old conservatory had become nothing more than a dumping ground. Chilly and drafty, no one enjoyed spending time in it, and it looked so dated against the rest of the house.
With the roof and guttering falling apart, the time finally came for a change. With a growing family, the Walsh’s were keen to remove the French doors that separated the conservatory from the house and create a bigger open-plan space that flowed from the kitchen. Wanting a TV mounted on the wall meant they needed to remove the old dwarf walls and windows and really start from scratch with the room design.
The use of a pre-fabricated wall system made this super easy, with the new wall panels used being lightweight enough to be built on the existing base of the conservatory.
Swapping the old polycarbonate roof for a tiled roof with glazed panels was the key to creating a warmer, more comfortable room that felt like a proper extension. They also chose to remove the old French doors and replace them with modern aluminium bi-folding doors that allowed them to open up the whole back wall into the garden space outside. Solid walls on either side gave them space to add furniture and finishing touches without losing too much light.
The lightweight wall panels used are 27% thinner than a traditional brick build, whilst also being able to lock in more internal heat saving the family money on their energy bills. They also gained additional floor space, and added a Lean-to roof with a high pitch to give more height so the room felt even bigger.
