Orangery vs Conservatory: Which Of The Two Should You Choose?
It can be a really agonising decision trying to decide whether to buy an orangery or conservatory when you want to extend your home and add a completely new dimension to it. There are so many upsides to installing both types of extension and very few downsides which complicates matters even more when you’re struggling to rule in favour of one or the other.
Once you know exactly what each of them offers and how an orangery differs from a conservatory, and vice versa, it could make your choice a lot easier.
Orangery
You can tell an orangery from a conservatory by the amount of brickwork used in the design as all orangeries have a brick-built base and brick-built walls. It also has a very expansive roofing system, typically with a roof lantern at its heart, and the glazed sections it does have tend to be quite prolonged.
Because such a large proportion of an orangery is composed of brickwork and this brickwork is specifically matched to the style of bricks used in its respective property, it’s generally felt that an orangery looks a more natural extension than a conservatory.
Though you don’t get the same amount of glass in an orangery that you profit from in a conservatory, you may not necessarily view that as a bad thing as less glass means more privacy for you.
Conservatory
A conservatory is a predominantly glass-built structure and the inevitable consequence of having all that glass is that it receives lots of natural sunlight in the daytime. The largely transparent view it provides to incumbents also guarantees you the most captivating perspective of the outdoor environment.
We use a conservatory as a home extension nowadays, but it was originally a place for growing plants and flowers as they would thrive in its atmosphere. The development of thermally efficient glass and materials led to the conservatory become the perfect setting for extended living as your modern conservatory is comfortable enough to be used for all-year round lounging, dining and working.
You can choose from a number of conservatory styles to ensure you find something that suits or go bespoke and create your own.
