Everything You Need To Know About Condensation
Condensation is something you dread seeing when opening your curtains first thing in the morning but it’s a very common problem at this time of the year.
If you’re unsure how to go about preventing it and just choose to let condensation continue happening, this can actually lead to major issues.
Firstly, damp and mould can occur. Secondly, it may have an affect your health in the form of respiratory-related complications such as asthma.
What is condensation and how does it happen?
Condensation is the act or process of changing from a gas to a liquid. This occurs on windows when the glass temperature falls below the so-called ‘Dew Point’ of the humidity in the surrounding air. The ‘Dew Point’ is dependent on both the air temperature and level of water in the atmosphere.
It appears on windows when there is a difference in temperatures between the outside and inside and the glass itself.
How do I stop it?
There are several measures you can take to reduce the likelihood of condensation forming on your windows. We have come up with 5 solutions:
-
Try and dry any wet clothes outside rather than inside whenever the weather is warm enough.
-
Open your bathroom window to let any hot air escape when taking a shower or having a hot bath.
-
Leave a decent gap between the walls and any furniture that you place inside your house so that air can travel freely.
-
Put the lids on any pans you use for cooking to prevent the steam they produce from escaping.
-
Think about replacing your old single glazed windows for double or triple glazing and get your ventilation spot on following their installation.
