5 Ways To Save Money At Home This Winter
Christmas 2016 is just around the corner, meaning your bank balance is likely to take a battering as you won’t want to disappoint those most dearest to you, and you need to get plenty food in.
If that’s set to leave you far from flush, don’t worry! Savings can always be made by changing your home habits and being more conscious of where cash is being wasted in relation to where you live.
We have 5 suggestions of how you can boost your finances:
- The installation of brand new windows and doors will make your home more thermally efficient and result in you paying far less for energy bills. Windows are rated according to the level of energy efficiency they provide, so, for the most energy efficient windows choose A+ Plus.
- Speaking of energy bills, find out whether you’re on the right energy tariff as many UK householders are overspending unnecessarily. You can do this by inputting your current energy usage into a comparison site where you will be presented with the best deals.
- When exiting your home or going to bed switch off all the lights and avoid leaving appliances on standby as this will still result in them utilising energy. Any old appliances – kettle, fridge, microwave etc. – should be replaced for more energy efficient equivalents.
- Those not currently in a position to replace their windows and doors can always invest in some draught excluders to keep out any coldness and contain the heat generated by their boiler.
- You would never turn up to the beach in a big overcoat and woolly jumper, so why wear a t-shirt and pair of shorts around the house in winter? Dress appropriately for the time of year indoors to avoid having to crank up the heating when you don’t need to.
