How To Beat Those Energy Bill Rises

At the end of the month, many of those currently on a fixed dual-fuel energy tariff will see their existing deal come to an end.

It is estimated that it could result in their energy bill rising upwards of 18%, which equates to an extra £172 annually.

If you find yourself in this position or you already have an expensive fuel bill then the following courses of action will help:

1. Switch supplier

Your immediate response should be to try and find a cheaper tariff which may involve you having to switch supplier. The switching process has been simplified in recent years and first-time switchers could save as much as £300 per year.

2. Turn off the lights

Your home should be secure enough without you having to leave some lights on whenever you vacate it. Turn all the lights off upon exiting at night-time. You could also purchase a few candles when sat in and utilise them instead of conventional lighting.

3. Use the timer on your boiler

There’s no point having the heating on when there’s nobody in the house as it’s a waste of energy and money. Work out when you will be in and out of the house and set the timer on your boiler accordingly.

4. Wear an extra layer

Rather than crank up the thermostat, put on an extra jumper and a few more layers of clothing to keep warm. You could also purchase a hot water bottle and have it clung tightly to your chest to heat your body.

5. Take advantage of a lie-in

During the coldest months of the year it can be incredibly difficult trying to drag yourself out of a nice warm bed. When you have a free diary make the most of it and stretch your 40 winks long into the morning.
